In his prosopographical study of the Bourtzes family, Cheynet mentions one person named Basileios, who is attested in the middle of the 11th century as a protospatharios epi tou Chrysotriklinou (La Famille Bourtzès, no. 12). He is known from a seal currently in Vienna (BBÖ 165) which bears the image of St. Basil on the obverse, which makes it likely that our seal belongs to yet another Basileios Bourtzes
